Introduction to KAS (2017) Exams

Friends,

1. It is a matter of pride that you have chosen to serve as KAS Officer in public domain, which will shape your career and help for prosperous Karnataka.
2. The KAS Testing Model and Levels are different and higher depth as compared to other Studies/examinations, candidates should prepare accordingly. Candidates are tested in 3 levels in KAS examinations as preliminary examination (Qualifying in nature), main examination & interviews, with the knowledge of various subjects with emphasis on estimation of real and future consequences, analytical ability and the minimum knowledge level for candidates on other subjects. It is important to understand the nature of the test before preparation for examinations, it is also important to study regularly.
3. The KAS test is roughly modeled on IAS testing model. Details of KAS Preliminary Exam - 2011 are as below.

• KAS Preliminary Examination (Examination Level: -1) [400 points] [Preliminary Examination]

A preliminary examination is required to select the appropriate candidates for the main examination. Preliminary examination involves multiple choice [Objective Type - Multiple choice] model questions.

Highlights:

1. Two Papers: Paper –I and Paper-II both are objective in nature.
2. Each paper has multiple number of questions to choose from, with each question being assigned two marks, a total of 200 marks per paper.
3. Two papers have a total of 200 questions (100 questions each) and 400 marks (200 marks each).
4. Each paper has a maximum duration of two hours.
5. For every wrong answer, ¼ [25%] of marks assigned to the question will be deducted under the "negative evaluation principle. No marks will be deducted for unanswered questions. If candidate chose more than one answer to any question, then answer is treated as wrong answer and ¼ [25%] of marks assigned to the question will be deducted under the "negative evaluation principle.

General science and technology, environment and ecology – Candidate do not require expertise or in depth knowledge in any area. Topics include health, ecology, biological diversity and climate change etc.
Daily experiences/observations/effects in science and technology and contemporary developments in science and technology are expected by a well-educated person who does not specially study any science content.
There are a total of 30 questions on this section, comprising of the following 20 different topics. Topics in this section are listed as follows:

The objective of this subject is the access the ability of candidate in terms of IQ, comprehension reading, logical reasoning and analytical analysis, decision making, problem solving, basic mathematical knowledge (numbers and their relationships, their volume, etc.) and data interpretation (maps, drawings, tables, data efficiency, etc. - SSLC examination level is equal to).
